WHAT IS A SHEPHERD'S HUT?
Shepherd's huts were used widely throughout Southern England during the 1800s and early 1900s for Shepherd's to watch over their flock of sheep. The huts provided a mobile store room and shelter for a Shepherd and the occasional lamb. They were especially important during the lambing season when tending the flock was a round the clock duty. Traditionally they stood on cast iron wheels with wood and later corrugated steel sides and arched corrugated steel roofing. At Pumphrey and Weston we have tried to keep our Shepherd's huts in keeping with these traditional huts, while meeting customers modern needs.
